Pet First Aid Kit


Below you will find a basic First Aid kit for a Dog or Cat followed by a Bird specific First Aid kit. For convenience, you may want to make one for your home and another for your car. It is also a suitable Disaster Preparedness kit.
In all Kits:
Taped to the lid:
Emergency phone numbers and your pet's medical record (including medications and vaccination history)

Contents:
- A current pet first-aid book
- Sterile gauze pads (3" x 3" and 2" X 2") and gauze bandage rolls (1" and 2")
- First-aid adhesive tape, 1" roll
- Stretch bandages
- Vet wrap, which sticks to itself but not fur
- Splint materials (tongue depressor, 12-inch wooden ruler or thick magazine)
- Cotton swabs (Q-tipsŪ)
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Plastic freezer/sandwich bags
- Small bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide
- Styptic pencil or cornstarch (stems blood flow from minor cuts)
- Antibacterial ointment
- Antiseptic cleansing wipes
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Calamine lotion
- Sterile saline solution
- Towel
- Kaopectate or Pepto-Bismol (for dogs sensitive to aspirin, use Kaopectate)
- Benadryl or other antihistamine
- Syringe for oral dosing
- Eyewash
- Eyedropper
- Mineral oil (a lubricant and laxative when given by mouth)
- Digital or rectal thermometer in a plastic case (normal body temperature of dogs and cats is 100.5 to 102.5 F; take your pet's temperature under normal conditions to get a baseline for comparison in case he gets sick or injured)
- Petroleum jelly (helpful aid for taking temperature)
- Leather work gloves (to protect you from being bitten)
- Latex gloves
- Leash
- Thin rope
- Cat muzzle
- Dog muzzle
- Pill Gun
- Pill splitter
